Okaloosa Eye Care Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Okaloosa Eye Care is proud to announce our 20th anniversary this month!

Dr. Wanda Batson originally opened the doors of her practice at 207 North Main Street on April 9, 1997. Dr. Batson and her husband, Chuck Batson, completely renovated the space and brought back much of the character of our beautiful building on historic Main Street in Crestview. Here are some pictures showing the original renovation process and the opening of Dr. Wanda Cook Batson’s office, which would ultimately become Okaloosa Eye Care.

Meet Dr. Jane Purdy

Okaloosa Eye Care is growing! We are excited to announce the addition of Dr. Jane Purdy to our practice.

Dr. Purdy grew up in Missoula, Montana where she attended Sentinel High School graduating valedictorian in 2004. She then received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology degree from Seattle University in Washington state where she was granted an athletic scholarship to play collegiate softball. Dr. Purdy went on to graduate with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, with a Doctorate of Optometry degree in 2013. While in optometry school, she was awarded a Health Professions Scholarship and commissioned into the United States Air Force.

Meet Dr. Chelsea Evans

Dr. Chelsea Evans

Okaloosa Eye Care is excited to announce the addition of a new optometrist, Dr. Chelsea Evans. Dr. Evans is a native of Whitley City, Kentucky where she attended McCreary Central High School and graduated as the 2007 Valedictorian. She then achieved her undergraduate degree in 2011 at Eastern Kentucky University where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and received her Doctorate of Optometry in 2015. While in graduate school she completed internships in primary care, ocular disease, contact lenses, pediatrics, vision training, optical, geriatrics and community eye care.

Thanks to our wonderful patients and staff, Okaloosa Eye Care had a great year in 2015. Here are some of the highlights:

Dr. Wanda Batson was invited to go to Scotland and tour the Optos Training Facility. While in Scotland, she also had the opportunity to tour St. Andrews and look for young Benjamin Franklin, the master of bifocals! (Benjamin Franklin received an honorary degree from St. Andrews in 1759.)
